A male Uber driver from Garden Grove is behind bars for several sexual assault charges on one of his female customers. He has also been accused of assaulting another woman the month before.
At about 4:00 AM on September 9, 2020, a 51-year-old woman ordered an Uber to take her to her workplace in Santa Ana. The driver who picked her up was 30-year-old suspect Jason Humberto Rodas.
“While in route to the victim’s workplace, Rodas suddenly cancelled the ride and told the victim her ride would be free of charge. Rodas then asked the victim several questions about her sex life.”
Ignoring her pleas and demands that he take her directly to work, Rodas drove erratically before he stopped in the area of 300 South Minnie Street in Santa Ana. The woman quickly got out of the vehicle and attempted to flee, but Rodas grabbed her, placed her in a chokehold, and attempted to sexually assault her before she was finally able to escape and run to her workplace.
“Evidence at the scene identified Rodas as the suspect and he was arrested several hours later,” according to the Santa Ana Police Department’s news release. He was booked into Santa Ana Jail on $1,000,000 bail. Among his several sexual assault charges are kidnapping with the intent to commit rape.
A search warrant was served at Rodas’ home to recover more evidence.
The month before, another woman said that Rodas threatened and then strangled her. She called the police to report him after Rodas threatened to kill her on September 4th. It us unknown whether she was also an Uber customer.
Detectives suspect Rodas may have committed additional crimes. Anyone with information on Rodas is asked to contact Detective Julio Gallardo at 714-245-8378, gallardo@santa-
