NORCO – “Pursuit” was the name of the game with a man who entered a gas station’s convenience store on 09/16/2020 around 1:00 AM, displayed a firearm, and demanded money at the cash register. Upon receipt of an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled on foot.
Riverside County Sheriff Department (RCSD) Deputies arrived on-scene and canvassed the area in the 3100 block of Hamner Avenue. The suspect had vanished into thin air – for now.
As a result, “Deputies from the Norco Special Enforcement Team were assigned the investigation, ” said Lieutenant. Andrew Elia. “After canvassing local businesses and retrieving video surveillance footage, deputies were able to identify a suspect and vehicle associated with the robbery.”
Shortly thereafter – “On Friday, September 18, 2020 at 5:42 PM, officers from the Barstow Police Department received an ALPR (Automated License Plate Reader) hit of the suspect vehicle used in the robbery,” said Lt. Elia. “Barstow Police responded to the area of the ALPR hit and located the vehicle occupied.”
A traffic-stop enforcement attempt resulted in a vehicle pursuit. “The vehicle lost control and crashed into a curb, disabling it,” said Lt. Elia. “The driver fled from the vehicle on foot and was immediately taken into custody.”
An immediate response from Norco Special Enforcement Team Deputies resulted in a search warrant for the suspect’s vehicle – which yielded a “loaded 9mm Tec-9 pistol, specific clothing items, and a backpack used by the suspect in the robbery,” said Lt. Elia. “The suspect taken into custody by Barstow Police was positively identified as the suspect in the robbery.”
Dominique Isiah Harris (32) of Barstow was taken into custody and transported to the Robert Presley Detention Center for booking. Charges include Robbery, Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of an Assault Weapon, and Possession of Ammunition by a Felon.
An obvious flight risk – Harris is being held on $50,000 bail.
