MALIBU – Two grandparents were watching after their 9-month-old grandchild on 09/26/2020 when a woman entered their Malibu home and snatched the sleeping child out of the playpen.
One of the adults, NFL Legend, Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana – noted for his ability to remain calm under pressure – stood tall.
“Mr. Montana and his wife Jennifer confronted the female, attempted to de-escalate the situation and asked for the suspect to give back their grandchild,” said Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department. “A tussle ensued, and Mrs. Montana was able to safely pry the child out of the suspect’s arms.”
Sodsai Predpring Dalzell (dob 10/16/80), of Valley Village, then fled. Deputies from the Lost Hills Station were flagged down at approximately 5:00 pm by Montana on the 22100 Block of Pacific Coast Highway, to report that the unknown woman, who had originally walked upstairs with the baby in her arms, had gone.
Deputies located Dalzell in the nearby area and arrested her. “Dalzell was charged 09/29/2020 with going into a Malibu home and trying to take a 9-month-old baby,” the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Dalzell, who was charged on 09/29/2020, “faces one felony count each of attempted kidnapping of a victim under 14 years old and first-degree residential burglary with person present,” said Ricardo Santiago of LA DA.
“The defendant, who pleaded not guilty in case LA093504 is scheduled to return on Oct. 20 for a preliminary hearing setting in Department 112 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Van Nuys Branch,” said Santiago. A possible 8-year maximum sentence in state prison awaits the defendant, if convicted as charged.
