BERKELEY — Officers investigating a suspicious idling vehicle nabbed a suspected drug dealer. This is the second time this year the same suspect has been arrested on multiple drugs and weapons-related charges.
Officers spotted a vehicle stopped in the middle of Mabel Street, near 67th Street and the Oakland border. It was nighttime and the engine was running while the headlights were turned off.
When officers contacted the driver to investigate, they learned he was driving with a suspended license. Furthermore, the driver was known to authorities, due to his prior contacts with police.
Officers conducted a search and located drugs and a loaded handgun with a high capacity magazine. In addition to cannabis, officers confiscated cocaine, heroin, oxycodone, psilocybin mushrooms and the tranquilizer Xanax.
The driver William F. Hommert, 25 of Oakland, was arrested September 30 at 10:41 p.m. Hommert was booked at Santa Rita Jail, although he is presently no longer listed in custody.
Hommert faces felony charges for possession of controlled substances for sale, and for carrying an unregistered loaded weapon. He is also charged with a special allegation for committing an offense, after being released on bail for another recent arrest.
In July, Hommert was charged with committing 25 drugs and weapons-related felonies. Altogether, his arrests in July and September have resulted in a total of 37 felony charges.
