Shots fired in the area of South J Street and West 7th Street led to several calls to the Madera Police Department dispatch the early morning of October 4, 2020. Details about the involved vehicle were the same across witness accounts: a white sedan in the area had fired a gun.
When Officer Camp reached the reported area, the car matching the described vehicle was located. Due to the possibility the subjects were armed, a high risk stop was initiated.
A loaded fire was found in the car. The 28-year old driver, Cesar Guizar, was arrested for driving under the influence, carrying a loaded firearm, and discharging a firearm in a grossly and negligent manner. He remains in custody at the Madera County Department of Corrections with bail set at $300,000.
Passenger Nathaniel Cortez, 22, was arrested for numerous firearm violations in addition to violating his parole. He remains in custody with bail set at $135,000. 22-year old passenger Edwin Ramirez remains in custody for violating the terms of his post release community supervision. His bail is set at $50, 000. Lastly, passenger Michael Arreazola was also detained for firearm violations but has since been released.
The City of Madera Police Department would like to encourage the public to continue to make calls such as these that provide an opportunity to make Madera a safer place to live.
