Sac PD: Man arrested in quadruple shooting that killed 9-year-old girl

On October 3, 2020 at approximately 1:08 p.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 3700 block of Haywood Street regarding a drive by shooting that had occurred at Mama Marks Park. Officers arrived on scene and located three victims who had been shot. One victim was identified as an adult female and the other two victims were identified as female juveniles. The adult female was transported to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition. One of the juveniles, a 6-year-old, was transported to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition. The other juvenile, a 9-year-old, tragically succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.
While units were on scene officers were notified of an adult male who had self-transported himself to a local hospital after being injured in this shooting. The male is listed in stable condition.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators have now taken over the scene. Detectives are conducting an extensive canvass of the area for witnesses and evidence. This investigation is in the early stages and information is limited. The circumstances and motive regarding the shooting are under investigation.
The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 21-year-old Laise Hands on murder charges in connection with the quadruple shooting on October 3rd that resulted in the death of 9-year-old Makaylah Brent at Mama Marks Park in North Sacramento. Sacramento Police Department homicide detectives have worked tirelessly alongside the community to identify a suspect in this tragic shooting. This investigation remains active.”
