The car was speeding at over 100 m.p.h. on Interstate 5 on October 3rd after 1:00 am.
An officer with the Corning Police Department pulled the driver over initially, but then sped off into a nearby rest area.
The driver, on CDC parole, was searched and then released with a citation.
It was believed that the driver threw something out of his car previous to the stop. After a search of the area, “a loaded Glock model 27 .40 caliber handgun with a 22-round magazine” was discovered.
About an hour later, officers came upon three individuals walking along the interstate with flashlights. One of the trio was the driver, 20-year-old Marco Mendoza.
Mendoza was arrested and charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammo and participation in a gang.
