On October 9, 2020, the late night of an unsuspecting resident of a home on the 600 block of Sunset Avenue was violently disrupted when a car crashed into his house.
The male resident was struck by the car and pinned between the intruding vehicle and debris. Lemoore Police Department Officers and Lemoore Volunteer Firefighters responded to the scene and worked diligently to free the man.
He was transported to the Adventist Medical Center in Hanford where he unfortunately passed away.
On the other side of this tragic situation, officers arrived at the scene in time to see the male driver flee from the collision site. As officers chased him on foot, he fell to the ground.
Before he could be apprehended, he pointed a loaded firearm at one of the officers. No one was injured as
officers quickly took the suspect into custody without incident.
In custody, the suspect further attempted to remain unidentified, providing police with a false name. Eventually, the suspect was correctly identified as 19-year old Roger Cabuenas Jr. of Lemoore.
Cabuenas was determined to be under the influence of drugs when he crashed into the home. He was arrested and booked into the Kings County Jail for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of drugs causing bodily injury, hit and run, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, carrying a concealed weapon on his person, carrying a loaded firearm in public, assault with a firearm, altering a serial number on a firearm, giving a false name to police, and resisting arrest.
Cabuenas remains in custody with bail set at $200,000.
