“CALEXICO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested a gang member Tuesday evening.
The incident occurred at around 11:50 p.m., when agents assigned to the Calexico Station observed a man illegally enter the United States. Agents apprehended the man approximately one half mile west of the Calexico Port of Entry and transported him to the El Centro Sector Rally Point for immigration and criminal history screening.
Agents conducted records checks, which revealed that the man, a 35-year-old illegal alien from Mexico, is a documented Sureño gang member with a prior conviction for 8 USC 1326, Illegal Re-Entry into the United States. The man also has an extensive criminal history with multiple felony convictions, including but not limited to: child cruelty, possession and transportation of a controlled substance, and assault with a deadly weapon: not a firearm out of Tulare, California.
Additionally, the man was formally removed from the United States back to Mexico by an immigration judge on February 18, 2004 in Las Vegas.
The gang member is being held in federal custody pending criminal prosecution.”
