FREMONT — A man with a history of committing robberies is in custody again, following two armed robberies on the same day. He has been arrested 21 times since 2014.
Rudy A. Garcia, 26 of Hayward, was on parole when he was arrested November13. Garcia is being housed at Santa Rita Jail, where he is frequently incarcerated.
He was arrested outside 42647 Philadelphia Place, one day after two victims were robbed at gunpoint. Officers located an unloaded firearm and separate loaded magazine nearby.
On November 12 at 12:20 p.m., a stranded motorist waiting for assistance was robbed near Kato Road and Warms Springs Boulevard. The victim was threatened with a handgun, before being robbed of jewelry and other personal property.
About one hour later, a victim sitting inside a parked car was threatened with a handgun, before being robbed of cash and personal property. This second robbery occurred on the 44000 block of Old Warm Springs Boulevard.
Detectives reviewed videos recorded by surveillance cameras to identify Garcia and a vehicle used in the robberies. Undercover detectives searched for him in multiple locations throughout the San Francisco Bay area.
When he was found in Fremont, Garcia led detectives on a foot chase, while being followed overhead by an aerial drone.
Garcia was booked on two counts of robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, and assault with a deadly weapon. In addition, he faces charges for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, evading an officer and parole violation.
Coincidentally, Garcia was on parole for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a stolen vehicle. He has numerous prior arrests for robberies, illegal weapons, and possession of narcotics.
