Hollister Police have arrested two men following an initial report of a suspected prowler checking for unlocked car doors.
Just after 12 AM on Tuesday, November 10, police were contacted regarding a suspicious person walking the 400 block of Promise Way, allegedly checking the doors of unoccupied vehicles to see if they were unlocked. Police say some of these incidents were also captured by nearby home surveillance cameras.
As the responding officer arrived, he noticed a suspicious vehicle leaving the area and pulled the driver over after witnessing an unspecified vehicle code violation.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer noticed that the driver — later identified as 35-year-old Mario Acostaperez — was wearing the same clothes that the suspected prowler had reportedly been wearing. The officer also noticed something else: a second man lying down in the backseat, hiding.
Acostaperez and his passenger, 24-year-old Roberto Arredondo — both of Watsonville — were found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and suspected stolen property.
Acostaperez and Arredendo were both ultimately arrested and booked on suspicion of drug paraphernalia, although Acostaperez also faces charges of prowling and driving on a suspended license.
