Kettleman City man accused of stealing truckload of pomegranates from local farm

“On November 2, 2020, Kern County Sheriff’s Office Rural Crime Investigation Unit detectives responded to the area of 25th Avenue and Twisselman Road regarding a theft of pomegranates. Detectives located a truck parked on the side of the road that had a tarp covering the bed of the truck. After removing the tarp, detectives saw the entire bed of the truck was full of pomegranates.
Ermelindo Garcia, age 55, from Kettleman City, California was located near the truck. During the investigation, it was determined Garcia stole the pomegranates from a nearby farm. The pomegranates were valued at approximately $6,000.
Garcia was arrested and booked into jail for violation for PC 487(B)(1)(A), Grand Theft of Fruit, and HS 11377(a), possession of a controlled substance.
During the last month, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Rural Crime Investigation Unit and North Area Substation has made three additional arrests related to theft of pomegranates from farms in Kern County.”
