CLAREMONT – A Claremont PD Officer attempted a traffic stop during a postcard-perfect Sunday autumn morning in the college town of Claremont – “The City of Trees and PhDs.” A traffic violation spotlighted a white VW Jetta with a male driver and a female passenger on 11/22/2020 at approximately 11:08 AM in the area of Indian Hill and Bonita Avenue.
As the officer attempted to stop the car in the bustling downtown shopping district – a mere 2 blocks west of the well-attended Sunday AM outdoors Farmers’ Market – imminent danger revved up, as the driver took off. The lush, fall landscape stopped the fleeing vehicle.
“The vehicle failed to yield and a vehicle pursuit ensued until the driver lost control, colliding into small trees in the area of Elder Dr. and Green St.,” said former Police Commissioner and current Council Member Ed Reece.
Officers conducting a search of the vehicle found fully-loaded guns and drugs, “a loaded .380 Jimenez Arms Inc. handgun located inside a sock in the center console and a loaded Springfield Armory XD 9mm handgun on the ground.” said Reece. “Also found inside the vehicle was Xanax, heroin, an methamphetamine, all packaged for sales.”
The anonymous alleged Claremont drug dealer (39), was put under arrest for illegal possession of a firearm and possession for sales.
