Investigation continues in death investigation in Trinity County

On November 20, 2020 at 4:45 PM, the Trinity County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center received a 9-1-1 call indicating that a shooting incident had occurred somewhere in the area of State Route 36.

Sheriff’s Deputies and California Highway Patrol Officers were sent to the general area, while Dispatchers attempted to gather additional information to include the location of the incident.

Deputies located the Reporting Party, who had left the scene in an effort to locate law enforcement; the scene was identified as a property in the area of Trinity Pines, CA.

Deputies and Highway Patrol Officers responded to the scene and located a deceased individual, who appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound. The subject, who was later identified as Raul Zamora Franco, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Interviews were conducted and a Search Warrant was served at the location. During the service of the Search Warrant, several firearms were located and seized, as were other electronic items likely to yield relevant information.

The investigation continues and it remains unknown as to whether or not Franco’s death had been a self-inflicted accident or a homicide. Once additional information develops, further press releases shall be issued.

As it presently stands, the matter is believed to have been an isolated incident and presents no danger to the general public.
