“This week, MPD’s patrol officers investigated three separate cases resulting in arrests of individuals possessing guns illegally.
Fifty-eight-year-old Glenn Schmidt of Modesto was contacted during a traffic stop and was found to be a felon in possession of an assault weapon, DUI and in possession of a controlled substance. He was booked into the Stanislaus County jail on multiple weapons charges along with drug charges.
Twenty-eight-year-old Thomas White of Modesto was contacted after a witness called in to report he had a firearm in public. Officers responded and found White in possession of a loaded firearm and learned he had attempted to purchase a firearm using false information at a local gun shop. He was arrested on multiple weapons charges and for using false information to purchase a firearm.
Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle on 9th Street when the passenger threw a rifle out of the window and fled the area. A short time later, the passenger exited the vehicle and attempted to run, but was taken into custody by officers.
The passenger, twenty-year-old Peter Cabuena was arrested and charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and an additional charge for manufacturing a short barrel gun.
