At-Fault Driver Identified in Collision at Lake Boulevard and Oasis Road

Originally published as a Redding Police Department press release –
“On December 8, 2020 at 4:00 PM, officers responded to a fatal traffic collision at the intersection of Lake Boulevard and Oasis Road.
The at-fault driver of the Toyota 4-Runner was not identified at the time of the original press release. He has been identified as Robert Christopher Maughs (see photo below), age 24 of Shasta Lake City.
Robert Maughs is on parole for DUI causing injury. He was also driving on a suspended license at the time of collision. Maughs remains at the hospital being treated for his injuries.
Maughs’s passenger, who died as a result of this traffic collision, has not been positively identified. As the passenger was being extricated from the vehicle, firefighters discovered what they believed to be a firearm in the decedent’s front waistband.
A closer inspection revealed it was a BB gun designed to replicate a Glock-style (see photo below) handgun.
