An 18-year-old from Turlock has been arrested in connection to an incident in which a Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputy was shot at, authorities say.
On the night of Wednesday, January 6, a deputy spotted a white sedan believed to be associated with an earlier report of shots fired outside city limits. When the deputy tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver sped away while at least one other occupant fired a shot at the deputy, though he was not hit.
A brief pursuit followed, before the occupants finally ditched the vehicle in the area of Spring Crest Drive and took off on foot.
Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies, as well as officers from CSU Stanislaus, Modesto PD, Ceres PD, Modesto CHP, and Merced CHP, joined in to help apprehend the suspects. Of the three, two were apprehended after about six hours. Officers also recovered three firearms.
The third suspect, identified as 18-year-old Ernesto Covarrubias Jr., was arrested the following day, January 7, and booked on suspicion of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, and possession of a firearm while under 21 years of age.
