It was nearly 11:00 o’clock at night on January 7th when a 911 Emergency call to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Camarillo Station Communications Center reported “a disturbance” at a Camarillo neighborhood mobile home park.
According to VCSD Major Crimes Bureau spokesman Sgt. Ryan Clark, responding deputies arrived to find a 34-year-old “adult male suffering from a single gunshot wound.” The victim was promptly taken by ambulance to Los Robles Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
As detectives attached to the Camarillo Police Department, the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit, and the VCSD Narcotics Unit arrived and “began collecting evidence and pursuing leads,” the names of 33-year-old Anthony Michael Garcia and 40-year-old Luis Vincent Reyes—both residents of Camarillo—came to their attention.
Further investigation that evening indicated that both Garcia and Reyes had “fled to Bakersfield” and would be found at a residence on that city’s Riata Lane.
By morning, detectives had a search warrant for the Riata Lane residence, and they wasted no time in recruiting the assistance of the Bakersfield Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics team in the service of the warrant. Early on the morning of January 8th , officers located both Garcia and Reyes at the suspect location and took them into custody.
Both men were transported to Ventura County Jail, where Garcia was booked on a charge of murder and Reyes was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and being an accessory after the fact. Both men remain in custody with their bail set at $500,000 each.
