On 12/19/2020 at approximately 3:30 p.m., a shooting in the commission of a robbery occurred in the 2300 block of N. Beale Rd in Linda. Yuba County dispatch received a 911 call reporting two male suspects had just tried to rob a man and shot him before running off toward a nearby apartment complex.
Deputies arrived at the scene and located a shooting victim on the sidewalk, with life threatening injuries. The deputies provided emergency first aid until paramedics arrived.
The victim, a 23-year-old Olivehurst man, was transported by ambulance to Adventist Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Multiple witnesses at the scene described the incident as an altercation appearing to be a robbery attempt of the victim, who was operating a food-vending cart in front of an apartment complex.
Two male suspects were reported to have struggled with the victim prior to the victim being shot, and then running away from the scene. The suspects were described as black males in their teens to early 20’s.
Detectives assumed the investigation, and with assistance from patrol, developed leads that resulted in the identification and arrest of two suspects on 12/20/2020, for the attempted murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, and robbery.
The suspects in custody are 18-year-old Trew Smith of Olivehurst, and a 16-year-old male from Marysville. Smith was booked into the Yuba County Jail with a bail of one million dollars; and the juvenile was booked into juvenile hall.
