On January 14, 2021 at about 5:16 p.m. the Los Banos Police Department received a call of a male with a firearm in the area of 9th and I street. The caller reported she was with her two young daughters when a male approached and pointed a gun at them.
The suspect was described as wearing black clothing, wearing a mask and carrying a backpack. The victim was able to keep an eye on the suspect from a safe distance and relayed his location to 9-1-1 dispatchers.
Officers arrived and located the suspect, 19-year-old Omar Corro Hernandez of Los Banos, attempting to hide behind a vehicle in the south alley in the 500 Block of I Street.
As Officers approached Hernandez, they could see a firearm inside of his open backpack and he was quickly detained. Officers located an unloaded rifle and ammunition in Hernandez’ backpack and a records check confirmed Hernandez is a convicted felon on Merced County Probation.
The victims in this case were shook up but thankfully uninjured. Hernandez was booked into the Los Banos Police Department Jail charged with: Felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, brandishing a weapon and violation of probation conditions.
