“On December 8, 2019, at approximately 1730 hours, Officers of the Banning Police Department responded to the area of Ramsey Street and Apex Street, in the City of Banning, County of Riverside; reference an unresponsive male subject located in the street with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
The victim, who was later identified as Leron Sanders, of Banning, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Banning Police Detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The investigation revealed that on December 8, 2019 at approximately 1730 pm, Sanders had been riding a skateboard on the south roadway edge, of the 5000 block of Ramsey Street, when he was struck by a silver vehicle that had partially left the roadway.
After the collision, the vehicle sped away leaving vehicle parts and debris behind at the scene. The driver of the vehicle fled the location, leaving Leron Sanders down and helpless on the asphalt roadway edge, before he succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives were able to locate, document and collect vehicle parts left behind by the suspect along with additional evidence. During the course of the investigation Detectives were able to identify and locate the vehicle, which was seized as evidence. The driver (suspect) was later identified as: Lilliana Diaz, of Banning.
On January 22, 2021, a warrant was issued by a duly appointed Judge of the State of the California, for the arrest of Lilliana Diaz for the crime of Murder. Diaz surrendered at the Banning Police Department on January 22, 2021 and was placed under arrest by Banning Detectives. Diaz was booked into the Larry Smith Correctional Facility.”
