“Last night, just after 9pm, a Santa Rosa CHP graveyard unit was monitoring traffic along US-101 southbound at Rohnert Park Expressway.
The officers saw a white Volkswagen SUV at a high rate of speed which was confirmed with a radar reading of 84 MPH.
The officers followed after the SUV and initiated an enforcement stop with emergency lights and siren activated.
The driver of the SUV failed to yield and accelerated to 120 MPH. A Marin CHP unit got into position to deploy a spike strip at Delong Avenue in Novato.
The spike strip was successfully deployed, but the SUV continued southbound. With two flat tires, the SUV stopped near Ignacio Boulevard.
The driver exited the SUV and fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by the Marin County Sheriff’s Department. Santa Rosa CHP took custody of Jahquinn Pounders (25, San Francisco) and placed him under arrest.
During the pursuit, Pounders threw a handgun from the SUV which landed on US-101. The firearm was located and found to be stolen.
The investigation continued and it was determined Pounders is a convicted felon on post release community supervision.
Pounders was later booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention facility on several charges including Felony Evading, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Possession of a Stolen Firearm.”
