February 8, 2021 – Santa Barbara, Ca.
If Simon & Schuster ever published a tome entitled “What Not to Do While on Felony Parole,” it’s doubtful that 29-year-old Santa Barbara resident Julio Ochoa would even give it a glance at this neighborhood bookstore’s discount table.
That’s an easily-drawn conclusion considering Ochoa’s arrest on the evening of February 4th when, at approximately 9:45 p.m. Santa Barbara Police Department patrol officers were conducting what SBPD spokesman Anthony Wagner described as “a premise check on a business” in the downtown commercial district and they spotted “a car previously reported stolen” in a nearby parking lot. When the officers approached the apparently unoccupied vehicle, they were surprised to discover Ochoa “reclined in the seat in an attempt to avoid detection.”
At that point, the cops ordered Ochoa to alight from the vehicle, an command which he promptly ignored as he “reversed the vehicle into an unoccupied patrol car,” causing enough damage that the cop car ultimately had to be towed away.
With the cops dodging out of the way to avoid being struck by the stolen vehicle, Ochoa then gunned the car forward in an attempt to drive “over a small cement wall in an attempt to flee.”
That didn’t work, and as Ochoa then “rammed another parked vehicle,” one of the officers smashed through the driver’s side window and “utilized his Taser to stop the ongoing an deadly threat.”
Ochoa was extracted from the vehicle and taken into custody. He was then transported to Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was booked on multiple charges including resisting arrest, assault on police officers, and seven pending felony arrest warrants. He remains in custody on a no-bail hold.
