GLENDORA – Detectives are investigating an ongoing mystery as to the frantic “Shots Fired” call at about 2:19 AM in the vicinity of the Tuesday Morning parking lot. When officers arrived to the 1000 block of E. Route 66, on Friday 02/05/2021, one victim told of the harrowing experience.
An unknown man had pulled a gun on the victim, fired several shots at him, then left. Detectives’ investigation located an additional witness, who corroborated that the suspect and victim “had a short verbal exchange in the parking lot before the suspect walked away” said Glendora PD. “Moments later the suspect returned and fired several shots at the victim before leaving the area.”
Further investigation revealed that the two men had not known each other, and that the victim, fortunately, was not injured as a result of the encounter. All this took place directly across the street in the vicinity of customers standing in line outside the open-24-hour well-attended, and award-winning Donut Man doughnut shop.
In addition to identifying the witness, Detectives ID’d the suspect as Eddy Velarde (33), of Long Beach. They located him later that night in Glendora near 9 PM.
Detectives recovered the handgun used in the shooting incident – still in Velarde’s possession. Investigating Detectives are seeking two counts for presentation to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Expect filing considerations against Velarde within the week for one count of 664/187 PC, Attempt Murder, and one count of 11377 HS, Possession of a Controlled Substance.
The suspect, who was arrested without incident, is currently in custody and on hold in lieu of $2 million bail.
