The heroin epidemic plaguing Southern California—evidenced by the ongoing flow of overdose cases and fatalities showing up in hospital emergency rooms in Ventura County—came one step closer to being resolved with the February 23rd arrest of North Hollywood, Ca. resident Antonio Osuna.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Eduardo Malagon, detectives attached to the VCSD Narcotics Street Team learned that Osuna was involved in “a sophisticated heroin distribution network” purveying its wares throughout the county. It didn’t take law enforcement long to identify Osuna and discover his place of residence in North Hollywood, whereupon a search warrant for those premises and Osuna’s person was obtained.
Surveillance of Osuna lead detectives to make contact with him when he entered Ventura County and was parked in his car on a residential street in Simi Valley. Upon contact, a warrant search of his vehicle was conducted, leading to the discovery of “ten ounces of heroin in a hidden compartment,” as well as “a large sum of money,” all indices of retail drug sales.
Osuna was taken into custody and transported to Venture County Jail, where he was booked on charges of possession of a controlled substance for sales, with his bail amount undisclosed at this time.
