March 4, 2021 – Santa Barbara County, Ca.
Late in the evening of February 28th , a 911 Emergency report of what Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Raquel Zick described as a “domestic dispute” involving gunfire” sent Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department deputies racing to a Santa Maria residence where they found 63-yerar-old Eladio Herrera sitting “in a car in front of the home.”
After detaining Herrera, deputies gained entry into the home where they discovered 38-year- old Dolores Reyes suffering from “what appeared to be several gunshot wounds to the chest.”
Attempts at resuscitation ensued, followed by the arrival of fire department and emergency medical personnel who pronounced Reyes dead at the scene.
Herrera was taken into custody as homicide detectives and “crime scene technicians” arrived. According to Zick, those teams “remained on scene for several hours to process evidence” while a Sheriff’s Department chaplain and Social Services personnel “responded to provide support for the victim’s family members who were on scene during the shooting.”
Herrera was transported to Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of murder with his bail set at $2,000,000.
