OAKLAND — Two men with lengthy criminal histories face charges in connection with a robbery and murder of an elderly man. Both suspects remain in custody, ineligible for release on bail, because they both have prior convictions.
The victim, 75-year-old Pak Ho, died from brain injuries a few days after he was attacked on March 9. He was walking to Lake Merritt when he was punched, fell to the ground, and hit his head.
It was shortly before 7 a.m. when this strong-arm robbery occurred in front of witnesses. The victim’s wallet and phone were stolen, and his cane was kicked out of reach.
The suspects were in a car that stopped, near the intersection of Jayne Avenue and Perkins Street. Teaunte D. Bailey, 26 of Oakland, exited the car and allegedly attacked and robbed the victim. Then both suspects fled.
Bailey was located first and arrested March 9 at 5:15 p.m. The other suspect Demtriases Britton (alias Elbert Britton) 56 of Oakland, was arrested March 12 at 2:09 p.m.
Bailey faces a total of 20 charges for the March 9 crime. These include assault, murder, robbery, and special allegations because of his prior criminal history.
In addition, Bailey also faces charges for an unrelated attack of a 72-year-old victim on February 19. This was a home invasion robbery. Bailey has prior convictions, and he has been arrested 18 times, not including his juvenile arrests.
Britton faces six charges for the March 9 crime. His charges include murder, robbery, and related special allegations.
Britton has prior convictions and numerous prior arrests. Britton has been arrested 12 times since 2013. In addition, he has prior arrests for burglary and robbery dating back to 1984.
Bailey and Britton each have court hearings scheduled for March 23.
