“A few nights ago night deputies responded to Mount Aukum for a report of a male banging on the door of an elderly female’s residence.
The male waved a hammer and then poured gasoline on and near the residence. He lit pieces of paper on fire trying to ignite the gasoline.
He fled the location in a vehicle shortly after. Deputies encountered the suspect vehicle while en route to the call. Deputies attempted a traffic stop of the suspect vehicle and the driver evaded them. A vehicle pursuit was initiated.
During the vehicle pursuit the suspect failed to negotiate a long sweeping turn. The suspect’s vehicle left the roadway and impacted an embankment, which caused his vehicle to tip over on its side.
The male, 33 year old Brian Steffes, was taken into custody and later booked at the El Dorado County Jail for Misdemeanor Evading, Criminal Threats, and Attempted Arson.”
