“We’re happy to share this feel-good story with our community, where our deputies were able to reunite a military veteran with some of his most prized possessions, after he became a victim of a residential burglary.
On March 26th at 2:40 p.m., Placer County Sheriff’s deputies responded to burglary in progress off Pope Street, in Elverta.
The homeowner reported coming home to find a male suspect in a bedroom of his residence who then took off into a nearby field.
Shortly after, a responding deputy was flagged down near Riego Market by an alert citizen who pointed out a male attempting to conceal himself in a bush.
The deputy contacted the male who identified himself as 58-year old Jerry Johnson of Marysville. Johnson is currently on parole.
The deputy found Johnson’s vehicle parked nearby, and conducted a search which turned up $1,000 worth of items stolen from the victim’s house. Some of those items included coins, cash, paperwork with the victim’s name, military keepsakes, a protractor kit and a vintage Bulova watch.
Deputies went back and searched the field Johnson ran through and found additional items stolen from the victim’s house and a backpack with bolt cutters and binoculars. Johnson was subsequently arrested for burglary.
Thankfully, the deputies reunited the victim with his military memorabilia, and he was very grateful!”
