Suspect arrested after committing a series of armed commercial robberies

Beginning March 23, 2021, through April 5, 2021, a male suspect committed a series of armed commercial robberies at businesses located in southwest Fresno. During each robbery, the suspect brandished a firearm and demanded cash from the store clerk. No clerk was injured during the robberies.
After committing the last robbery on April 5, 2021, the suspect was located immediately and arrested by officers from the Southwest Policing District when he ran to a hotel room located at Jensen and East Avenue.
Officers immediately secured the suspect’s room, and with assistance from Night Detectives from the Street Violence Bureau, the suspect was identified by the robbery victim. The suspect was identified as Arturo Chavez, 20 years of Fresno. He was determined to be on parole for robbery.
Street Violence Bureau Robbery Detectives assisted in the investigation and completed a search warrant for Chavez’s room. During the search, several items of evidence were located, including a firearm used during
the robberies.
Chavez was booked in the Fresno County Jail for multiple robberies and a parole violation. The Fresno County District Attorney’s office has since filed the case.
