INDIO – El Centro Border Patrol Agents encountered a silver Nissan Altima on Interstate 10 near the Washington Avenue exit on 04/08/2021. The incident revealed itself around 12:30 AM, when the pulled- over vehicle drew the interest of the Border Patrol K-9 Detection Team.
They alerted toward an area, the trunk, which held a spare tire that seemed unusually heavy. Appearing to be loaded with packages, Agents stepped in for the count – 30 hidden bundles.
Also in the trunk was a portable speaker housing five packages. Testing of the suspected narcotics revealed a positive result for the characteristics of methamphetamine.
“The total weight of the methamphetamine was 36.7 pounds with an estimated value of $100,993,” said California Border Patrol (CBP).
Two United States citizens were detained – the driver, an anonymous man (46), and an anonymous male passenger (35). The CBP Agents arrested the traffickers and held them for further processing. CBP El Centro Sector turned over the thwarted smugglers, the vehicle, and the narcotics to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
