In a case that clearly proves the pernicious effects of methamphetamine use, 49-year- old Moorpark, Ca. resident Edward Ayans stands accused of the assault and rape of a 76-year-old woman.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Captain Eric Buschow, it was just after 6:00 AM on the morning of April 20 th when VCSD 911 Emergency Dispatch operators received a call from the victim’s neighbors reporting “screaming and
a naked man” running through the courtyard of their apartment complex.
Responding deputies made contact with the elderly victim who was suffering “significant injuries.” She was treated at the scene and promptly transported to a local area hospital “in stable but critical” condition indicating that “she was severely beaten.”
Shortly thereafter, deputies made contact with Ayans who was clearly under the influence of methamphetamine and “in an extremely agitated state.” Deputies determined that Ayans is a convicted felon “with several drug-related arrests and a criminal history spanning three decades.” He was immediately subdued, taken into custody, and transported to Ventura County Jail.
Ayans was booked on charges of attempted murder, rape, mayhem, and elder abuse, with his bail ste at $1.1 million.
