OAKLAND — Two men have been arrested in connection with a murder of a college student that occurred last summer. The East Bay Regional Park District Police Department announced charges were filed against the two suspects on May 17th.
The victim 21-year-old Donald Stanifer was found dead at Huckleberry Botanic Regional Preserve. His body was found in parkland located in the Oakland Hills July 13, 2020, a week after his mother reported him missing.
Park police launched the ensuing investigation because the victim’s body was found within its jurisdiction. Other agencies assisting in this investigation included Oakland police, and the U.S. Marshals Service and the FBI.
The victim was last seen near the College of Alameda July 5, 2020. His car was found by Alameda County Sheriff’s Office deputies three days later near San Leandro.
The suspects in custody are Elijah A. Jordanbrooks, 21 of Pittsburg, and Marquise J. Johnsimon, 22 of Oakland. Both men are being housed at Santa Rita Jail, pending a court hearing on June 4.
Jordanbrooks was arrested May 14th at 6:10 a.m. on a warrant served at a residence on Pheasant Circle in Pittsburg. Johnsimon was simultaneously arrested in the city of Oakland.
Jordanbrooks is charged with murder. In addition, he is charged with use of a deadly weapon and committing a felony with a dangerous or deadly weapon. Meanwhile, Johnsimon is charged with being an accessory after the fact.
