Riverside, CA – On Friday, May 21, 2021 at approximately 6:39 p.m., Riverside Police Officers and Paramedics with the Riverside Fire Department responded to a barbershop, located in the 3400 block of La Sierra Avenue, regarding an assault with a deadly weapon that just occurred. When they arrived, officers found two adult male victims suffering from stab wounds, and an adult male suspect who sustained gunshot wounds. Both victims and the suspect were treated by paramedics then taken to a local hospital.
The preliminary investigation determined the suspect was a former employee of this barbershop. He arrived at the business, went inside, then attacked and stabbed one of the victims several times with a knife. A second victim employee intervened in the attack and the suspect stabbed him one time as well. The second victim then retrieved a handgun from a drawer and fired at the suspect, striking him.
Detectives with the Robbery – Homicide Unit, along with Specialists from the Forensics Unit, responded and assumed the investigation. They are being assisted by the Riverside County Sheriff – Coroner’s Office.
The suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Joseph Jimenez of Riverside, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The two victims were treated for their injuries and later released. No arrests have been made at this time but this case will be reviewed by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.
