Officers arrived and located 28 year old, Nikilas Cornwell, on the ground suffering from a single gunshot wound.
Cornwell was transported to CRMC where he was initially listed in critical condition. On Tuesday, April 27, 2021, Cornwell succumbed to his injuries sustained from the shooting.
During the investigation, Homicide Detectives identified 27 year old Jeffrey Emmett as the person responsible for Cornwell’s murder. On Thursday June 3, 2021, Emmett was contacted by members of the Fresno Police Department’s Street Violence Bureau Tactical Team and was found to be in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun.
Emmett was initially arrested for being an ex-felon in possession of a loaded firearm and later interviewed by Homicide Detectives. During the interview, Emmett admitted to shooting Cornwell during an altercation.
On June 8, 2021, The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office filed formal charges against Emmett for the murder of Nikilas Cornwell. Because this is still an ongoing investigation, detectives are asking anyone with information to please contact the Fresno Police Department.”
