Just after midnight on June 20th, at the Wine Bar at 840 Brewster, the report came in about a man laying unconscious on the sidewalk.
The victim had been asked to leave the Wine Bar. The vicitm did not go quietly intot henight, but had to be physically removed and held down on the sidewalk “until he calmed down.”
He then tried to enter the bar again and was “involved in another assaultive altercation with security.”
This time, while being held down on the sidewalk again, Paula Alipate, security for the bar, kicked the vicitm in the head and struck him at least four times in the face with a flashlight. He was then taken to Stanford Hospital.
On the evening of June 22nd, detectives obtained a search warrant for Alipate and saw him enter a vehicle as a passenger. At 8th Avenue and Bay Road, the suspect was arrested. and booked for assault with force likely to cause bodily injury.
The victim later “died of a medical circumstance independent of the injuries sustained during the assault.” The investigation into the victim’s cause of death continues.
