A Vallecito man has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting near Camp 9 Road, according to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.
Just after 3 a.m. on July 1, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a man found dead in an area accessed from Camp 9 Road.
After deputies secured the scene, detectives responded and spent the remainder of the night gathering evidence, which ultimately led to the identification of 55-year-old Donald Baldwin as the primary suspect.
Investigators also discovered that numerous cars and trailers appeared to be situated in the area. Animal Services were called to the scene to take temporary custody of four dogs and twenty-three cats that had been in one of the trailers.
Baldwin was located and arrested on suspicion of murder, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and possession of ammunition by a prohibited person.
