NOVATO — Officers patrolling an area recently experiencing a spike in crimes spotted a truck reported stolen in Utah. Two persons nearby found with the keys to the truck in their possession were promptly arrested.
Novato Fair Shopping Center, located at the intersection of Diablo and Redwood avenues, is attracting more than shoppers lately. The shopping center is being plagued by an increase in criminal activities, specifically property crimes.
A special response team conducting crime prevention and crime suppression patrols pulled into the shopping center on July 9. They
immediately saw a suspicious U-Haul truck.
Further investigation revealed the rental truck had been reported stolen to authorities in the state of Utah. Officers contacted a man and woman, who apparently had rented the truck for only one day.
However, instead of returning the truck, the suspects drove it to California, where one of the suspects lives. Neither could explain why they kept driving around with the truck without proper authorization.
For their actions, they were both transported and booked at Marin County Jail.
