“Recently, the Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call from an alert citizen who was watching two subjects steal a catalytic converter from a Toyota Prius parked in a business parking lot in the 5000 block of Madison Avenue.
Deputies and detectives arrived on scene and observed a subject standing acting as a lookout while another subject was under the vehicle removing vehicle parts.
Deputies detained both subjects. A search of the suspect’s vehicle, revealed an exhaust head recirculation system belonging to the Prius along with cutting tools. Both suspects were placed under arrest for Grand Theft and Vehicle Tampering.
Within minutes of that arrest, a second citizen called our Communications Center to report that two males just stole a catalytic converter in the 5400 block of Gibbons Drive. The citizen captured photos of the suspects and the getaway vehicle.
Based on the citizen’s description of the suspect’s vehicle, deputies located the vehicle a few miles away. During a search of the vehicle, deputies recovered a catalytic converter along with cutting tools. All three suspects were taken into custody for Grand Theft and Vehicle Tampering.
Thanks to some alert citizens of Sacramento County, our Sheriff’s deputies were able to apprehend five suspects for catalytic converter thefts in one day!”
