“On July 9th at 11 p.m., Placer County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a petty theft at the Bel Air in Auburn. The suspect was seen walking out of the grocery store with over $640 worth of items without paying for them.
Deputies found the suspect in the parking lot of the shopping center holding a 6-inch knife. The suspect refused the deputies’ commands to drop the knife and walked away towards Highway 49 while yelling profanities.
Deputies utilized less-lethal methods in an attempt to stop the suspect, but they had no effect. The suspect walked into traffic and threw the knife over his head just missing the deputies behind him.
Deputies were then able to gain control of the suspect and place him under arrest. The suspect was identified as 62-year old Richard Cooke of Auburn.
Cooke was arrested for resisting arrest, brandishing a weapon to resist arrest, assaulting a peace officer, petty theft and violation of parole.”
