BERKELEY — A driver passed out inside a car with weapons, ammunition and booze bottles was arrested near the Berkeley/Oakland city limits. It took three hours to rouse the man from a deep slumber before he was taken into custody on July 15.
Residents reported seeing the man slumped inside a car with weapons in the middle of the afternoon. Mindful of the danger of an armed person who may be disoriented when suddenly awaken, responding officers kept their distance.
A perimeter was set up and tire spikes placed around the car to prevent any possibility of fleeing. The surrounding area of Prince Street was cordoned off and police attempted to contact the man by loudspeaker.
