On July 18, 2021 at 3:01 PM, concerned Petaluma residents reported a male subject, later identified as Jose Brizuela (28) of Petaluma, driving a green Saturn sedan was erratically running stop signs and weaving near Fairwest Market on Western Avenue.
Petaluma Police Officers were dispatched to the area and located the vehicle travelling westbound out of town on Western Avenue. Believing Brizuela may be driving under the influence, officers activated their red lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle.
Brizuela failed to yield, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued at moderate speeds westbound on Chileno Valley Road until Brizuela stopped at the intersection of Chileno Valley Road and Wilson Hill Road. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Officers performed a DUI investigation on Brizuela and suspected he was driving his vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance.
Jose Brizuela was ultimately charged with felony reckless evading, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, and driving without a valid California Driver’s License. He was later booked at the Sonoma County Jail
