“This morning deputies responded to a report of a vehicle burglary on Corral De Tierra Road in south Salinas. A witness heard a male break a parked vehicles window and provided a suspect description to responding deputies.
Deputies located the suspect, Chris Andrews, vehicle leaving the area and attempted to stop the vehicle, which was also reported as stolen.
Andrews made a poor choice to not stop and a vehicle pursuit was initiated. Andrews drove recklessly on Hwy 68 and San Benancio Road, making multiple U-turns.
As the pursuit reached Highway 68 again, Deputy Najem, who was responding was targeted by Andrews. The suspect accelerated into the side of Deputy Najem’s patrol vehicle, ramming it and a civilian vehicle on the roadway.
Luckily, no major injuries occurred during this incident, and Andrews was taken into custody. Andrews is being booked into our jail for burglary, vehicle theft, evading, and assault with a deadly weapon.”
