July 25, 2021 – Santa Barbara, Ca.
When Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to what was presumed to be a routine “check-the-welfare call” at a private residence on the afternoon of July 15 th , little did they suspect it would lead to a gruesome discovery of a murder victim.
According to SBSD Public Information Officer Raquel Zick, uniformed deputies arriving at the residence of 72-year-old Bradley Tolivar and his 29-year-old son Casey Augustin Tolivar, learned that Casey had had an altercation with a victim later identified as local area resident Stevan Lubarsky who had “fled the residence with serious injuries.”
Alerted to a situation involving possible violence at the hands of the younger Tolivar, deputies promptly initiated a search of the home. That search ended when deputies “discovered a deceased man inside the residence who was identified as Bradley Tolivar.” Casey was taken into custody and booked on charges of assault and attempted murder in the attack on Lubarsky
involving a weaponized “rock and glass bottle.”
An autopsy of Bradley was conducted several days later, which indicated that “the preliminary cause and manner of death was by blunt force trauma” involving the use of “a steel bar as a deadly weapon.” Given that evidence, Casey Tolivar was re-booked on a charge of murder and remains in custody with his bail set at $2,030,000.
