July 24, 2021 – Santa Barbara County, Ca.
The July 20th arrest of 36-year-old Goleta resident Shivani Hernandez might give pause to anyone involved in the contemporary dating scene, particularly if one’s girlfriend has any access to kitchen cutlery.
According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Raquel Zick, it was just after the lunch hour on the day in question when a 911 Emergency call for service reported “a stabbing victim” in possible need of medical assistance.
Responding to the residence identified in the call, uniformed deputies discovered “a male victim with a stab wound to the back” and Hernandez still inside the house. While the victim was hastily transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment of his “serious injuries,” deputies initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading up to those injuries.
They quickly learned that Hernandez and the victim were “in a dating relationship” which had apparently gone briefly sour, leading to “an argument during which the suspect stabbed the victim and prevented him from leaving the residence.”
With that information in hand, deputies placed the cuffs on Hernandez and transported her to Santa Barbara County Jail, where she was booked on multiple felonies, including suspicion of attempted murder, inflicting corporal injury on a cohabitant, and false imprisonment.
While her erstwhile boyfriend is “expected to recover from his injuries,” Hernandez remains in custody with her bail set at $1,000,000.
