“On August 12th at 5:15 p.m., deputies responded to Canyon Way in Colfax to look for a man who inappropriately touched a female passenger on a Greyhound commuter bus.
A deputy found the suspect walking along the shoulder of Interstate 80. The suspect saw the deputy and took off across the freeway. Deputies searched for the suspect, along with CHP’s H24, but were unable to locate him.
Later that day a female motorist stopped to help what she thought was a stranded pedestrian, not knowing he was the suspect. The suspect forced himself on the female and inappropriately touched her.
The female victim got back in her car in an attempt to escape but the suspect was also partially in the car. As the victim drove off the suspect fell out of the car.
Soon after, a CHP officer found the suspect on the side of the freeway, but the suspect ran away again. After hours of searching and with the help of Falcon 30, deputies were finally able to locate and arrest the suspect.
They identified him as 35-year old Joseph Bonnie of Fernley, Nevada. Bonnie had an outstanding Lassen County warrant. Deputies searched Bonnie’s person and found two glass smoking pipes, four Xanax pills, one oxycodone pill and two concealed fixed blade knives.
Bonnie was arrested for sexual battery, false imprisonment, carrying a concealed dirk, resisting a peace officer, violation of parole, his warrant, and possession of a controlled substance, benzodiazepines and drug paraphernalia.”
