“On 08/28/2021, at approximately 0930 hours, we were notified of a mailbox cluster located in the area of Carbondale Road and Muller Road in Ione that had been broken into. Our deputy responded and determined that numerous mailboxes had been damaged, many of which had been forced open. The deputy notified the Plymouth Post Office to assist with identification of any apparent victims.
At approximately 1313 hours that same day, we were notified of two suspicious male subjects at Walmart who were associated with a white Honda Accord. The reporting party further advised that the male subjects left Walmart and were driving eastbound on Highway 88.
One of our responding deputies subsequently located the Honda Accord and eventually made contact with the occupants at the Arco AMPM in Martell. During the contact, deputies developed probable cause to search the Honda for contraband. During the search, deputies located numerous pieces of mail that were confirmed to have been stolen from the aforementioned mailbox cluster. Furthermore, deputies located burglary tools, stolen identification and access cards, a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Both occupants, identified as Abel Arizmendi, 40 years old, of Citrus Heights and Christopher Trent, 28 years old, of Roseville were arrested and booked into the Amador County Jail. They will face multiple charges, to include possession of stolen property, identity theft, unlawful possession of identification cards, possession of burglary tools and drug related offenses.
If you are a resident in the area of Carbondale Road and Muller Road and believe you may be a victim of this mail theft, please call 209-223-6500.
We are extremely grateful for the observant citizen who reported this suspicious behavior and encourage all of our community partners to report questionable behavior.”
