Driver Wearing Only his Underwear Arrested following 4 Car Crashes
MILL VALLEY — A man wearing only his underwear was arrested following four car crashes in one day. He was taken into custody after crashing into a retaining wall at a gas station, where he was acting erratically.
On August 27 at 9 p.m., Mill Valley officers were dispatched to the Arco station at 789 Redwood Highway. They found the suspect standing near the gas pumps talking incoherently and possibly hallucinating. He was apparently intoxicated on drugs and/or alcohol.
The driver Daniel J. Armstrong-Rauer, 35 of Rohnert Park, was purportedly involved in a hit- and-run accident in Novato. Police confirmed he was also involved in two other hit-and-runs, while driving between Novato and Mill Valley.
Following the hit-and-run in Novato, Armstrong-Rauer purportedly told the other driver that he had a gun. Then he drove away from the scene of the accident.
Believing the suspect might be armed, officers attempted to detain him. However, he was uncooperative and during a scuffle two officers were assaulted. This necessitated wrapping him in a restraining device.
Armstrong-Bauer was transported and booked into Marin County Jail. He remains in custody on open charges in lieu of $15,000 bond.
Armstrong-Bauer presently faces six charges, including DUI alcohol/drugs, driving with a suspended license/refusing a chemical test. He also faces charges for ignition interlock device violation and driving without proof of insurance.
In addition, he faces charges for battery on two police officers and obstructing officers. The Novato Police Department and California Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the three hit-and-run accidents. Completion of this investigation may result in additional charges.
When he is not getting in trouble with the law, Armstrong-Rauer works as a handyman.
