“On 9-4-2021 at about 1558 hours, Crescent City Police Officer Pearson and Sgt. Wilson responded to a report of a possible burglary in progress at a business in the 200 block of US Hwy 101 in Crescent City.
Upon arrival they located David Schumack (age 36) inside a shed on the property. Schumack initially tried to give the officers a false name while they were determining if he had permission to access the property or not.
Once probable cause was established to arrest Schumack for 459 PC, Burglary, the officers attempted to verbally de-escalate Schumack and take him into custody. Schumack fought with both officers prior to Sgt. Wilson being able to activate his taser and deploy it. The first deployment of the taser had little effect on Schumack.
Sgt. Wilson then attempted to deploy the taser a second time, but it again had little to no effect on Schumack. Sgt. Wilson then followed up with a drive-stun technique to Schumack as Officer Pearson was still fighting with him on the ground. The officers were then able to take Schumack into custody without further incident.
Schumack was taken to Sutter Coast Hospital for medical clearance and to have the taser probes removed. He was then transported to the Del Norte County Jail and booked for 459 PC, Burglary, 69 PC, Obstruct/Resist Executive Officer, 11364 HS, Possession of Controlled Substance Paraphernalia, and 148.9 PC, False Identification to a Peace Office.”
