Man shoots at school bus, is pursued by police, and dies in officer-involved shooting
An armed man seen shooting at a school bus was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Buena Park.
A Buena Park police officer on patrol witnessed the man shooting a firearm at the school bus around 2 p.m. on Friday, September 3rd, in the area of Orangethorpe Avenue and Western Avenue.
According to an article on the story at ABC7.com, “There were no reports of injuries and police say it appears only a driver and one student were on the bus.”
When the officer attempted to pull over the suspect vehicle, the man led the officer on a chase through nearby surface streets of Buena Park.
The pursuit ended when the man drove through a locked fence into the parking lot of a Buena Park School District building, located at 6885 Orangethorpe Avenue, and hit another vehicle. Instead of surrendering to police, the man continued to resist, and an officer-involved shooting took place. Two officers fired their weapons, resulting in the man’s death. No officers were injured during the incident.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the officer-involved shooting. The name of the man has not been released.
The ABC7.com article continues, “’This could’ve been much worse,’ said Buena Park PD Capt. Frank Nunes. ‘Fortunately our officer was at the right place at the right time and intervened and possibly saved someone’s life.
